  • Dove
Moon Dust was surrendered to our shelter when his owner was no longer able to provide proper care for him.

If you opt to keep doves be prepared for constant cooing. While they cannot screech like a parrot, their cooing is fairly constant. Some people enjoy the pigeon’s coo and find it relaxing; others, however, might not enjoy the constant cooing sound.

Doves have different housing needs than parrots. Doves are unable to climb up the cage bars like parrots ca; instead they move about by flying back and forth, which makes a wide cage an important feature. Offer a variety of perch styles and of varying diameters, which will help promote good foot health in your dove. Doves also need opportunities for bathing.

Doves, unlike parrots, need grit in their diet because they eat their seeds whole. Provide several types of grit, as well as a calcium supplement, especially during breeding. Though it is tempting to breed these birds year-round, doing so will leave the birds in an exhausted and weakened state. Most aviculturists advise resting them for a few months after every two or three clutches. When well cared-for, ring-necked doves can live for more than ten years.

This young dog is full of energy, and needs to find the right home to suit his needs. He was surrendered to our shelter when his owner could no longer handle him. Just under 2 years old, Harley is in need of a breed-familiar handler who is willing to work on his training. Harley is very strong, and needs somebody who would be comfortable and strong enough to handle him.

Handsome Harley would be best suited in a home with no other pets, as he does have a very high prey drive. With the right home, Harley would make an excellent companion!

Lucy was brought to the shelter by the RCMP after her owner passed away. Lucy has been reactive towards other animals in her last two homes and is looking for an experienced and breed familiar owner to work with her. One on one with people Lucy enjoys petting and attention (in fact she can be quite demanding). She is very active and likes to run and play. However, if allowed, Lucy will assume the leadership role and will guard her people or other high value objects from other animals or pets.

Please make sure you have done your breed research and that Lucy will be a good match for your lifestyle. Pointers are bred as an all purpose hunting and gun dog meant to have drive for hours at a time. This means they a requirement for both physical and mental outlets. It does not mean you have to be a hunter but Lucy's needs for activity and mental stimulation (a job to due) may be more then some other breeds.

If you are thinking of adopting Lucy please make sure you are prepared to invest the time and finances into working with a professional if you encounter problems.

Timbit came to our shelter as an extremely nervous little stray. With some TLC, Timbit has gotten much more comfortable with people and handling. Although she is starting to feel safer around people, we would not suggest a home with young children or dogs, as this may frighten her.

Her favourite toy is a tennis ball, and she will bring it back to you every time. Jesse is very sweet once she gets to know you, however she can be reactive to strangers, especially men.

Jesse should be the only pet in the home. Her ideal owner would be a single person, as Jesse struggles with jealousy issues, and can be protective of her owner.

Please keep in mind that Jesse does have a bite history before considering adding her to your home. Please call the shelter manager for more information on this beautiful girl.

Here"s Hank! This handsome six year old neutered Pit Bull is a happy and playful fella. Hank came from a home with children and he loved them. He is not good with other animals. He must go to a pet free home. Like most Pitties he is very vocal and loves to "talk" to his people and his toys. He enjoys walks and would love an active family to go hiking or maybe running with. He should wear a harness when he is being walked as he can be an escape artist with collars. Hank is very smart and that face!

Patches is a sweet old lady that just wants someone to love. She was returned from a foster home and an adoptive home because she was urinating outside of her litter box. Patches is healthy but this issue seems to be behavioral. Patches does not have this issue at the shelter as shelter staff use a non scented litter and scoop her litterbox as soon as it is dirty. Patches new home will have to continue with her medication (inexpensive) and not use scented litter and continue to make sure her litter box is cleaned a couple of times a day. We would love to see Patches in a home for her golden years.
